Mac OS - Direct download Mac OS major update
Problem
The Check For Updates dialogue is not working as expect or you wish to directly install a specific Mac OS update.
Resolution
- Press Command+Space and enter Terminal and luanch the result.
- Use the command below and press ENTER to obtain a list of available installers:
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
- Once you have determined the installer required enter the command line below:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version [version]
• Where software update = command
• Where [version] = main software version and point release
After pressing ENTER you will see "Scanning for... " then a progress indicator installing and a percentage. The resulting file will be placed in the Applications folder within Mac OS.
An example command line for the current version at the time of writing is:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 13.4
- Then close Terminal to return to Mac OS UI.
Installing the Mac OS update
- Open Finger and navigate to Applications folder (hotkey COMMAND+SHIFT+A).
- Then locate the installer typical named:
Install Mac OS [version]
- Where [version] is the version number of the installer.
