Mac OS – Repair disk permissions

Problem

A customer is experiencing some problems with their Mac which may be the result of faulty disk permissions.

 

Resolution

  1. Click Finder icon on the dock.
  2. Click Applications in the Finder side bar.
  3. Then open Utilities > Disk Utility.
  4. Then click Macintosh HD in the side bar, if more than one instance of Macintosh HD is shown click the topmost.
  5. Then click the First Aid button in the toolbar in the window.
  6. Click Run button when the prompt appears.
  7. If a warning dialogue appears stating that the computer may stop responding click Continue button. 
 
Note
For customers who have renamed their main work drive, click on the name of that drive before choosing First Aid button.
