JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion - Manually downloading additional voices

Problem

An IT Technician is not able to use the Add/Remove voice dialogue in JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion because the internet connection and firewall do not permit connection.

Resolution

This document may be of particular interest in settings where the internet connection does not allow the Add speech engine does not work and you need to download/install speech engines manually.


  1. Please visit: https://support.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/Synthesizers
  2. Then choose as appropriate to the JAWS being used and select the required language:

  1. Vocalizer Expressive 2 (for JAWS 18.0 and later.)
  2. Vocalizer Expressive 1 (for JAWs versions 15.0-17.0)
  3. Vocalizer Direct (for JAWS 14.0.)
  4. Realspeak Solo Direct (for JAWS versions 10.0 - 13.0)

After downloading please run the selected voice installers, then restar JAWS to make that voice Available to select in the Voice Adjustment dialogue.

English dialect voices

  1. English Australian
  2. English British
  3. English Indian
  4. English Irish
  5. English Scottish
  6. English South African
  7. English United States

  1. Then navigate to the button for "Premium High" and activate it for the speaker you wish to download.
  2. Then once downloaded run the installers to install the voices.
  3. After installing the voices you will need to restart JAWS so they become available.
