K1000 - Updating Kurzweil 1000 software
Problem
You need to update K1000 but are unable to do it from within the software via the auto update mechanism.

Resolution
From time to time a patch is released to update Kurzweil 1000 software. Kurzweil 1000 does not automatically notify of updates however you can start the process manually. There are two method to updating the software, pickl the one that is most apropriate for your situation.
Method 1 - Using Online Update
Use the online update method if you are a domestic customer and have full access rights to the machine:
- In K1000 press ALT+N for Online and then press up arrow to navigate to Update and press ENTER.
- K1000 will announce the online search has begun, after some time if an update is found it will provide it in a list, press spacebar on the update to select it for download and press ENTER.
- After a while it should indicate that the update has been downloaded and installed, please close K1000 for the update to install.
- When reopen K1000 and press ALT+H and press up arrow to About Kurzweil 1000 then press ENTER.
- K1000 will then speak the version number which should be incremeneted to the latest release (for example 14.18).
Tip
The online process does not give much feedback about download progress, if nothing is heard after about five minutes close K1000 and then wait about three minutes, then reopen the software and then check the version number. If the version number has not been updated try using the steps below for Updating K1000 from patch file.
Method 2 - Updating K1000 from patch file
A standalone patch installer is available from the developer which is useful in secure IT environments or where multiple installations of Kurzweil need to be updated, proceed using the steps below:
1. Click the link to navigate to k1000 updates page.
2. Scan down for the patch file link, then click or press ENTER on the link to download the file.
3. When the file has been safely downloaded close Kurzweil 1000 if it is running then launch the patch installer.
4. If user account control is enabled authenticate with that and the patch installer will run.
5. If a screen reader is running progress may be annonced of the patch installing, when the update is finished the patch closes automatically (wait for screen reader to catch up to confrm this) or wait about three minutes.
6. After the patch update is complete reopen Kurzweil 1000, then press alt+H and up arrow to About Kurzweil 1000 and press ENTER. The new version number should then be announced to confirm the update is installed.
