Mathtype - License activation checks and solutions

Problem:

You are unable to activate Mathtype automatically or the license has been dropped.

Resolution:

Please check these items below.

1. Internet connection check

To easily check your Internet connection you can do the following and send us a screenshot of the result:

For Windows

  1. Windows key + R
  2. Write the following in the dialog and click OK.

cmd /k reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" | findstr "Proxy"

For macOS

  1. Cmd + Space and write "Terminal"
  2. Write the following in the dialog and press enter
scutil --proxy

2. Key database test

Use the utility provided on the below link to test the license number on WIRIRS servers without MathType:

You will only need the one download depending on the operating system being used:

In order to make the program run follow the steps below:
• Download the version of the program that works in your system:

beholder-win-32.exe (Windows 32bit)
beholder=win-64.exe (Windows 64bit)
beholder-mac-64 (most modern Mac systems)
beholder-mac-32 (for older Mac systems)

• Open the “command Prompt”:
On Windows

  1. Windows key + R
  2. Enter cmd in the dialog and click OK.

On macOS

  1. Cmd + Space to open seach and enter the command below and pick the result to run tha app:
Terminal
  1. Then drag the application from whee it was downloaded into the Terminal window and press backspace and write your key and press enter. After that, you will see several lines checking the key on WIRIS servers. Copy the text and send to WIRIS support.

### Solutions

In the case it is not possible to connect through the given Internet connection, there are three possible workarounds:

  • Either resolve www.wiris.net now and get the current IP you are seeing from your side, then whitelist that IP in the firewall and run MathType in all computers to update the licenses. That will solve the issue while the IP does not change.
  • Or disable the firewall/filters temporarily to update the licenses.
  • We can create a new product key with an updated expiration date.
