Medion - Akoya 15407 static discharge reset

Problem

This document contains potential solutions for two related power/charging problems that may occurr:
• The laptop does not power on at all, no charge/power indicator lights are shown when the power adaptor is plugged in.
• The laptop fails to detect the charger is plugged in whilst Windows is running. charge when plugged in.

Resolution

For all problem cases check the following before proceeding with the methods below. If unsure as to exact problem run through all in sequence.
  1. Ensure charger is plugged into known good 13 amp socket, try another socket if possible.
Ensure that charger is connected to jack on left side of machine (dispaly side towards you).  The right hand jack is headphones not charging.
If no power light check power strip switches are turned on, try another socket on the strip.
  2. Check for any damage on the charger jack, gently push centre pin with ballpoint pen, if it gives this may indicate a damaged socket on laptop.
  3. Check if there is any damage along the charger wire, for example kinks or exposed wire where outer jacket of the cable may have been damaged.
Symptom 1 - Laptop does not show charge/power lights

If he laptop does not show any power when connected to charger use the solution below.

Solution 1 – Static discharge reset

  1. With the laptop powered off unplug the charger from the side of the laptop.
  2. Then turn over so you can see the bottom panel.
  3. On the right hand side observe a small pinhole reset circled in red below. Use a straightened paperclip and use that to depress the reset button for approximately 20 seconds. This will disconnect the battery and allow static charge to be released.
  4. Turn the laptop back over connect the power adaptor and attempt to power on. If it does not power there is likely a problem with power adaptor or laptop mainboard.

Symptom 2 – Laptop is on but does not appear to charge or detect power adaptor

If the laptop is connected to charger and running Windows but does not appear to be charging then follow the solution below.

Solution 2 – Force reinstall of ACPI battery driver

  1. With the laptop running right click Start menu and then choose “Device Manager”.
  2. In “Device manager” double click “Batteries”.
  3. In the drop-down list look for the item “Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery” and right click.
  4. Then choose the option “Uninstall” and when prompted confirm uninstall of the battery component.
  5. Restart the laptop. If the laptop does not respond and still does not charge the problem may be a faulty power adaptor. Windows will then reinstall the battery driver and you can re-test if the problem is fixed.
