  1. The laptop does not power on at all, no charge/power indicator lights are shown when the power adaptor is plugged in.
  2. The laptop fails to detect the charger is plugged in whilst Windows is running. charge when plugged in.

Applies to

  1. Medion Akoya 15407

Resolution

Before attempting the solutions bleow please check the following items:

  1. Ensure charger is plugged into known good 13 amp socket, try another socket if possible and see if the laptop will charge.  Please take care to ensure the charger jack is plugged into the socket on the left side of the laptop.
  2. Carefully inspect the charger jack to see if it is straight and check for any bare wire, this damage may result in the charger not being able to supply power to the laptop.

Method 1 – Attempt static discharge reset

Please attempt this solution is powering on the laptop does not result in any lights, fan or display turning on.

  1. With the laptop powered off unplug the charger from the side of the laptop.
  2. Then turn over so you can see the bottom panel.
  3. On the right hand side observe a small pinhole reset circled in red below. Use a straightened paperclip and use that to depress the reset button for approximately 20 seconds. This will disconnect the battery and allow static charge to be released.
  4. Turn the laptop back over connect the power adaptor and attempt to power on. If it does not power there is likely a problem with power adaptor or laptop mainboard.

Method 2 – Force reinstall of ACPI battery driver

Please attmpt this resolution if the laptop powers on but does not recognise the charger when plugged in.

  1. With the laptop running right click Start menu and then choose “Device Manager”.
  2. In “Device manager” double click “Batteries”.
  3. In the drop-down list look for the item “Microsoft ACPI compliant control method battery” and right click.
  4. Then choose the option “Uninstall” and when prompted confirm uninstall of the battery component.
  5. Restart the laptop. If the laptop does not respond and still does not charge the problem may be a faulty power adaptor. Windows will then reinstall the battery driver and you can re-test if the problem is fixed.

Next steps

If the laptop fails to respond to the above attempts this may indicate that there has been physical damage to the laptop or poer jack that prevents the laptop receiving power; or there is a problem with the laptop electronics.
