Microsoft - Boot Microsoft Surface tablet using Windows Recovery media

Problem

A Microsoft Surface user needs to boot using a USB Recovery media to reinstall their Windows.

Applies to

  1. Microsoft Surface tablet

Resolution

  1. Shut down your Surface if it is currently running.
  2. Connect the supplied USB boot media to the Surface unit.Press and hold the volume-down button on the Surface and whilst doing this press and release the power button.
  3. The Microsoft or Surface logo should appear on the screen, continue to hold the volume-down button. Then release  the button when spinning dots appear beneath the logo.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to boot from your USB drive.  If necessary continue to reinstallation of Windows to reinstall the Windows operating system.
