Microsoft - Check windows version
Problem
You need to check which version of Windows is installed on a computer system.
Resolution
As of writing there are two major versions of Windows in circulation; Windows 10 or Windows 11. Use the steps below to determine which one is installed on a machine.
Method 1 - Using a mouse
- Right click Start and choose Run command.
- Type in the program name WINVER, then click OK.
- A new window will be posted, look for the Windows symbol and text immediately to the right indicating which Windows version is running, then follow the appropriate steps.
Method 2 - Using the keyboard (JAWS/Fusion users)
- Press WindowsKey+R to open the Run command.
- Then type in the program name below and press ENTER:
WINVER
- Press CONTROL+JAWSKey+V to hear the Windows version spoken, or alternatively press JAWSKey+B and listen out for the Windows version reported in the copywrite notice in the dialogue.
- Press ENTER to dismiss the dialogue window.
