Problem
A customer wishes to add page number to a Microsoft Word so
page numbering only starts from a specified page after title page or table of
contents.

Resolution
Use the steps below to start page number from any position within the document.
Windows
- Navigate to the page and click where page numbering is to begin, then click Layout > Breaks > Continuous.
- Then click Insert > Page Number ribbon split button
and select the desired location for page numbering.
- Click to highlight the page number and choose Layout and
uncheck Link To Previous section button.
- Then click Page Number > Format Page Numbers in the
ribbon.
- In the dialogue click the entry box for Start At and
enter the number then click OK.
- Remove page numbering navigate to a position in the
document before that created step 1 above and click Insert > Page Number
> Remove Page Numbers. The page
numbers will be removed from the portion of the document before the continuous
section break inserted earlier but have page numbering start from the
continuous section break
Mac OS
- Navigate to the page and click where page numbering is to begin, then click Layout > Breaks > Continuous break in the ribbon.
- Then click Insert > Page Number > Page number.
- Then choose the desired location for page numbering.
- Click to highlight the page number and choose Layout and click
to disable Link To Previous button.
- Then click Page Number > Format Page Numbers.
- In the dialogue click the entry box for Start At and
enter the number to start numbering from then click OK.
- Navigate to any page prior to the section break in step 1
and click Insert > Page number > Remove Page Number. The effect of this will be to remove any page
numbers prior to the continuous section break.
