Microsoft – Excel formula bar not visible

Problem

In Excel the formula bar is not available.

Detail

This problem may particularly affected JAWS users and others who are accustomed to this area being present.

Resolution

Below provided are mouse click and keyboard instructions for making the formula bar visible in Excel.  Use either of the following methods below to re-enable the formula bar.  Method 2 and 3 are for those who access Excel using the keyboard and/or use a screen reader such as JAWS.

Method 1 – Using the a mouse

Click View > Show > Formula bar


Method 2 – Using shortcut keystrokes

Press ALT key followed by W, ZS, VF

Method 3 – Browse ribbon using JAWS

  1. Press ALT then press right arrow to View ribbon menu and press ENTER.
  2. Then press CONTROL+RIGHT arrow to reach Show group.
  3. Then press SPACEBAR to open the menu and arrow down to Show Formula bar, then press ENTER to toggle it on.
