Microsoft – Obtain the updated Quick Assist app

Problem

When attempting to run Quick Assist remote support app the user is prompted to install an updated version before they can use the servicd.
 

Applies to

  1. Windows 10
  2. Windows 11

Note
Computers within some organisations that are managed may have Quick Assist disabled and will not be accessible via this method.

Resolution

Microsoft Quick Assist was originally offered as part of Windows 10 installation to provide remote assistance facilities. Subsequent to that original release Microsoft decided to offer an updated version via their Windows Store app.  Therefore on some systems the user may be prompted to install the updated version from the  Microsoft Store  before they can use Quick Assist.  Below are two aproaches to getting the updated version installed if the customer is a screen reader user.

 

  1. With a browser visit:  https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9p7bp5vnwkx5?hl=en-US&gl=US
  2. On the page locate the Download button and press SPACEBAR or ENTER to activate it.
  3. Open the download basket in your browser (Edge or Google Chrome) using CONTROL+J.
  4. Then look for the download Quick Assist Installer.exe and press ENTER.
 

Method 2 – Via Microsoft Store

  1. Press Windows key and type the word Store and press ENTER on the Microsoft Store entry.
  2. In the Microsoft Store press CONTROL+F to engage a search, then enter the phrase Quick Assist and press ENTER.
  3. Press the TAB key to move to the first result which should be Quick Assist, press ENTER to open the page.
  4. Then page should open and leave focus on the Get button, press SPACEBAR on it to download it.
  5. After the download and install completes press ENTER on the Open button to start the app.

    In Future you will be able to search the Quick Assist app from the Start menu or press CONTROL+WINDOWS+Q to directly launch it.
