Microsoft – Open Windows Explorer to This PC (JAWS)
Problem
A JAWS user needs to open Windows Explorer to This PC where
they can view frequently used locations and drives on the system.

- Windows 11
- Windows 10
Resolution
Please use either of the solutions below to easily navigate to the This PC location in Windows that allows the user to view all connected drives and in some case frequently used folders or files.
Method 1 – Via Explorer tree view
- Press WINDOWS+E to open Explorer.
- Press SHIFT+TAB to reach the tree view.
- Press down arrow until you reach This PC and press ENTER.
- Then press F6 to switch to the list view and use ARROW
KEYS to locate the item of interest.
Method 2 – Using address bar
- Press WINDOWS+E to open Explorer
- Then immediately press F4 or CONTROL+L.
- Then press CONTROL+A to or SHIFT+HOME select all text in edit box.
- Then type This PC to replace the existing text and press ENTER. Explorer will then navigate to the This PC.
- Then press TAB three times top access the files list view and use normal navigation to access any drives or folders from there.
Tip
Using Method 2 above you can type the name of any of the root
folders within user profile to access them eg. Documents or Downloads to access
them.
