Obtaining battery cycle count information on HP laptops

Problem:

The laptop has abnormally low battery performance in use or cuts out almost instantly when disconnected from mains power.

Resolution:

To resolve this issue it may be useful to check the battery cycle count information. Within the first year warranty the battery is covered. The battery is not covered under extended warranty.

  1. Open HP Support Assistant and then click "My PC".
  2. Click "Diagnostics and tools" then "HP Battery check".
  3. This should then show the health of the battery, click on "Show advanced information".
  4. Then please send a screenshot of the resulting information.

Downloading HP Support Assistant

If the HP support asistant is not on you machine you can download using the steps below:

  1. With your browser go here to download the HP Support Assistant tool: https://ftp.ext.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp101001-101500/sp101214.exe
  2. When the download has finished run the file to install and then afterwards open Start menu and type HP and run the "HP Support Asistant" result.
