Outlook – Forward an inbox message as attachment


Problem

You wish to forward a message in your inbox or other mail folder as an attachment to Technical Support that causes a problem with an AT software product so the problem may be analysed or reproduced.

 

Applies to

  1. JAWS
  2. ZoomText
  3. Fusion

Application

  1. You wish to pass on a message that causes a crash or other issue with an AT product (JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion).
  2. Any other related purpose


Resolution

  1. When troubleshooting an issue where a particular Outlook message that causes a crash or some other issue with an AT product such as JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion it is best to send the complete message as attachment rather than forward to provide the best chance for Technical Support to  reproduce the problem behaviour.
  2. Use one of the methods below as appropriate to complete the task.

 


Method 1 - Using a mouse

  1. In the main window select the inbox or other mail folder where the email is located. 
  2. Then right click the email and choose Copy in the context menu to copy it to clipboard.
  3. Then click New Message button to start a new blank message.
  4. Enter any contact addressee and other info for subject and body of the message.
  5. Whilst in the body of the email right click anywhere and choose Paste in the context menu.  This will paste the email as an attachment underneath the message header information.
  6. Complete and send the message as normal by clicking the Send button in the open window.
 

Method 2 - Using the keyboard

  1. Locate the message you wish to attach to send on in the inbox or folder.
  2. With the message highlighted in the list view press CONTROL+C to copy it to clipboard.
  3. Then press CONTROL+N to open a new email message, fill out the addressee, subject and any body text.
  4. Whilst focused on the body of the email press CONTROL+V to paste the email to attach.  This will be paste into the open email window.
  5. Then press CONTROL+S or CONTROL+ENTER to send the message on as attachment.
