Polaris - Resets

Problem:

The Polaris notetaker is suddenly functioning erratically or not as expected.


Applies to

  1. Polaris 
  2. Polaris Mini

Resolution:

Use one of the methods below to see if resetting will fix the problem.


Method 1 - Reset via menus

Use this method if you need to conduct a settings reset on the unit.

  1. Press F1 to open the menus and navigate to "Settings" menu and press ENTER.
  2. Then navigate to “initialize Polaris Options and press ENTER. Alternatively press letter C after accessing the “Settings” menu.
  3. You are then prompted, "Do you want to initialize options?" Use "Space" to choose "Yes" or "No". Choosing "Yes" initiates the factory reset process. Choosing "No" cancels the function and returns you to the "Polaris Settings" menu.

Note:
This reset does not remove any of the Android settings such as Google accounts, etc.


Method 2 - Soft reset

Below describes how to do a soft reset on Polaris which does not wipe any data.

  1. Power on Polaris,
  2. With Polaris running press and release all keys together:  F2 + F3 + Dots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
  3. Polaris should then restart to normal operation

Method 3 - Android launcher reset

  1. Power off Polaris.
  2. Then press and hold F2 + F3 + Dots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 keys together.
  3. Then press power button press power button.


Method 3 - Using power on keys reset

Use this reset when the Polaris fails to boot into HIMS environment.  This reset will remove user data.

  1. Press and hold dot7 + F1 + media stop button all together.
  2. With all above keys held press power to switch on.
  3. Keep holding keys and release dot7 + F1 and media stop button when you hear the power on music and “HIMS” is displayed on the Braille line.
