Printers - Unable to connect to Wi-Fi (DSA)

Problem

A DSA student receiving a printer from Sight & Sound is unable to connect their printer via Wi-Fi connection in halls of residence.

Resolution

Customers is located in student halls of residence may experience problems connecting their printer to the local Wi-Fi network.  This is because device usage of the network is controlled by MAC address and web login which is known as captive portal system.  The printer will be unable to negotiate the web login and so will be unable to successfully connect.  To resolve this problem two potential solutions exist:

  1. Some Student Wi-Fi providers allow submission of a device MAC address to the account to allow the printer to connect to the network.  The MAC Address will usually be printed somewhere on the printer itself.  Log into the Wi-Fi provider account to add this information.  Due to variations in support success cannot be guaranteed.  Please contact the provider for assistance setting this up.
  2. If a customer is unable add the printer to the network, we advise that a USB cable connection between their computer and printer will work instead.  Please contact Sight & Sound support by telephone 01604 798 000 or email support@sightandsound.co.uk for assistance.
