JAWS - Problems downloading version 17.0 or earlier

Problem

A JAWS user encounters problems on www.freedomscientific.com downloading JAWS 17.0 or earlier.

Resolution

JAWS users seeking an installer for JAWS 17.0 may run into problems attempting to download the installer.  This is because modern browsers such as Google Chrome, Edge and Firefox no longer support the FTP protocol for downloading files.  The links for JAWS 17.0 and below are by default FTP links and will not work, instead you will need to select Hypertext Transfer Protocol when download JAWS 17.0 or earlier.

  1. With a browser navigate to:  https://support.freedomscientific.com/Downloads/JAWS/PreviousVersions
  2. Then navigate to the drop to select the JAWS version, then press ALT+DOWN ARROW and select JAWS 17.0.
  3. Navigate to the protocol drop down, then in similar fashion select Hypertext Transfer Protocol.
  4. Then activate either of the JAWS 17.0 download links to then press ENTER.
