QBraille XL – Resets

QBraille XL – Resets

Problem

A QBraille XL unit is not working as expected and a user wishes to try resets to resolve the problem.

Resolution

Provided below are soft and hard resets to try to resolve problems, also included is Restore To Factory Settings should this be required.

Soft Reset

  1. With the QBraille powered on press and hold Power for three seconds so the unit shuts down.
  2. Then press Power button normally to restart the unit to check if problem is resolved.

Hard Reset

Using a hard reset may fix problems where the unit does not turn on because the battery is depleted and the unit does not power on when connected to power via USB C.
  1. Put the QBraille XL on a flat surface in front of you.
  2. Then locate on the read panel a small pinhole recess for reset button that should be on the right hand side (as viewed from the front).
  3. With a small pointed object such as a straightened paperclip or toothpick gently depress the reset button but avoid using excessive force that may damage the unit.

Settings reset

If you believe that the settings are the cause of the problem use the steps below to reset settings to factory defaults.

Notes
Note
Under normal circumstances if you reset settings on QBraille it will save a backup of the current settings onto the installed SD card.  Therefore please remove any SD card if you wish to restore to defaults rather than have user settings reloaded from the backup on the SD card after resetting.

  1. Remove any SD card installed in QBraille XL if you do not wish backed up settings to be restored after reset.
  2. Power up the QBraille normally.
  3. Then press Menu button and navigate to 'Information' in the menu system.
  4. Then press the Braille chord Backspace-Space-Enter-f (dots-1-2-4) to reset.
