Run First Aid to Repair Mac or MacBook drive permissions in Recovery Mode

Information

It may be necessary to repair the drive data and drive permissions of the Mac or MacBook to restore proper operation. This is best done from within the recovery environment to avoid problems.

Steps

  1. Boot into Recovery Mode first.
  2. Within Recovery Mode click Disk Utility click View menu, then choose Show All Devices.
  3. Then Select the Mac hard drive or startup volume at the left sidebar.
  4. Click the First Aid button in the toolbar of Disk Utility.
  5. Click the Run on the popup to confirm running First Aid and click Continue. The process may take 5 minutes to check and possibly longer if any repairs are required.
  6. When completed a window similar to that shown below will confirm the process completed successfully.
