Unexpected experience, hear the crash sound when executing the File Manager
Symptom: If you hear ‘clang’ sound when executing the File Manager, either saving the file or opening the dialog in Word Processor.
Cause: The file in the Sense notetaker which contains file extension information has been corrupted.
Solution: Connect the Sense notetaker to PC and delete the ‘fileext.ini’ in the Sense notetaker on the PC. And create ‘fileext.int’ again by executing the File Manager on the Sense notetaker.
Note: Follow below steps to delete the ‘fileext.ini’ file and create the file again. All keys below are used by the PC keyboard.
Steps:
Press the RESET button on the Sense notetaker when it is no longer responding to user interaction. Then it will automatically restart announcing File Manager.
Connect the Sense notetaker to PC using USB cable.
Select ‘my computer’ in the desktop and enter into ‘my computer’ by pressing ENTER key. Or press WINDOW key and E key at the same time and all disk drives on your PC will be listed.
Move to the first removable disk using Down Arrow key which is the flash disk on the Sense notetaker.
Enter into the first removable disk by pressing ENTER key.
Move to the database folder using Down Arrow key and enter into the folder by pressing ENTER key on the folder.
Move to the file named as ‘fileext.ini’ using Down Arrow key and delete the file using DELETE key.
Disconnect the Sense notetaker from the PC.
Execute the File Manager on the Sense notetaker and at this time “fileext.ini” file will be automatically created again in the database folder under the flash disk.
Unrecognized file types when saving or opening a file everywhere on the Sense notetaker
Symptom: When trying to save or open a file everywhere on the Sense notetaker, you may encounter an error message ‘undefined file format’.
Cause: The file in the Sense notetaker which contains file extension information has been corrupted.
Solution: Delete ‘fileext.ini’ file using the File Manager on the Sense notetaker.
Note: Follow below steps to delete the ‘fileext.int’ and create it again. All keys below are used by the Sense notetaker.
Steps:
Execute the File Manager by pressing ENTER key on the main menu. Or by pressing Dots 124 (F) on the Main Menu.
Move to the “flash disk” using SPACE-Dot 1 (Up Arrow) or SPACE-Dot 4 (Down Arrow).
Enter into the flash disk by pressing ENTER key on the disk.
Move to “database” folder using SPACE-Dot 1 (Up Arrow) or SPACE-Dot 4 (Down Arrow).
Enter into the database folder by pressing ENTER key on the folder.
Move to the “fileext.ini” file using SPACE-Dot 1 (Up Arrow) or SPACE-Dot 4 (Down Arrow).
Delete the file using SPACE-Dots 145 (DEL).
Exit the File Manager by pressing SPACE-Dots 1356 (ALT-F4).
Execute the File Manager by pressing Enter key on the main menu and at this time “fileext.ini” file will be automatically created again in the database folder under the flash disk.
Performing the hard reset to revive the Sense notetaker in non- response.
Symptom: When turning on the Sense notetaker or attempting to navigate menus, you receive no feedback. The reset button does not work the Sense notetaker on. The power switch does not work the Sense notetaker either on or off.
Cause: The Sense notetaker software, the Windows CE operating system has encountered unexpected problem or the battery become flat.
Solution: The Sense notetaker needs to be revived.
Note: Following below steps will reset all settings to factory defaults.
Steps:
Press the power switch to the ON position. (Only Braille Sense Classic)
Press the Media Forward button on the front of the Sense notetaker which is the rightmost button.
While the Media Forward button is being held down, press and release the RESET button at the same time.
Continue to hold the Media Forward button down until you hear the starting sound.
When you hear the starting sound, release the Media Forward button.
After no more than a couple of minutes, the Sense notetaker should restart itself. If you do not hear it start up, remove the battery, and repeat the steps above.
No response although performing the hard reset
Symptom: No response even though performing pressing the Reset button or do the hard reset while connecting AC adaptor.
Cause: The battery might be flat entirely.
Solution: The battery needs to be initialized.
Steps:
Disconnect the AC adaptor and remove the battery from the Sense notetaker.
Press the Reset button couple of times in order to discharge electric current on the circuit board.
As soon as you connect to AC adaptor without the battery, press the Media Forward button, which is the rightmost button on the front side panel, for more than 10 seconds.
Note: Please perform above steps repeatedly if there is nothing response on the Sense notetaker.
Once the Sense notetaker is turned on, attach the battery and charge the battery for more than 8 hours while it’s on.
Lock up with loud noise from the Sense notetaker
Symptom: The Sense notetaker locks up with noise while using it although you can check the remaining battery status.
Cause: The physical status of battery does not match with information of the battery status given by the Sense notetaker.
Solution: The battery needs to be fully charged.
Steps:
Press F2-F3 (TAB) to switch activated program.
Save current works and exit all programs.
Press the RESET button if the first step does not work.
Connect the AC adaptor to the Sense notetaker.
Charge the battery for more than 8 hours while it’s on.
Note: if the battery cycle was decreased, it may be appeared above situation.
How to reformat the flash disk
Symptom: The Sense notetaker can’t recognize the flashdisk. Or there is undesired behavior, such as a recurring schedule appearing upon boot up that is not in the Schedule Manager, or a crash needing a reset each time when you launch the Word Processor or E-mail program.
Cause: The flash disk has been corrupted.
Solution: Format the flash disk.
Note: If you don’t want all data in the flash disk any longer, it is the best idea to format the flash disk and you can restore new data in clean flash disk.
Steps:
Save current works and exit all programs.
Hold SPACE-Dots 123 (Fn-F) down.
Press the RESET button and right after, release the RESET button.
Continue to hold SPACE-Dots 123 (Fn-F) until you hear the format message.
The Sense notetaker will say "format 20 percent."
Once the format has begun, release SPACE-Dots 123 (Fn-F).
The Sense notetaker will continue to format the flash disk until it reaches 100%.
After formatting the flash disk completely, the Sense notetaker say, "File Manager."
Unable to establish a wireless network connection
Symptom: If the Sense notetaker can’t search for any wireless routers or sounds ‘wireless not activated’ although the wireless LAN is turned on.
Cause: The wireless LAN didn’t be turned on by internal system error.
Solution: Follow below steps.
Steps:
Save current works and exit all programs.
Press the RESET button.
If there is no success by the second step and turn off the wireless and then turn it back to on by pressing BACKSPACE-Dots 1456 (F11) twice.
Unable to establish a Bluetooth network connection
Symptom: When you press ENTER on the Bluetooth Manager, the unit sounds “Bluetooth not activated” although the Bluetooth is turned on.
Cause: The Bluetooth didn’t be turned on by internal system error.
Solution: Follow below steps.
Steps:
Save current works and exit all programs.
Press the RESET button.
If there is no success by the second step and turn off the Bluetooth and then turn it back to on by pressing BACKSPACE-Dots 3456 (F9) twice.
Not changing the battery status although charging for a while
Symptom: After the battery completely become flat such as 1%, the battery status does not be changed although it is being charged for a couple of hours around.
Cause: Not initialized the battery chip.
Solution: The battery chip needs to be initialized.
Steps:
Disconnect AC adaptor and remove the battery from the Sense notetaker.
Connecting the AC power to the Sense notetaker and turn it on.
If the Sense notetaker is turned on, attach the battery.
Check the battery status until you want to charge.
Note: if the battery cycle was decreased, it may be appeared above situation.
