SensePlayer - BBC web radio stations lost after update

SensePlayer - BBC web radio stations lost after update

Problem

A SensePlayer customer has lost functionality of their BBC Web Radio stations that do not play when selected.

Applies to

  1. SensePlayer EZ/ET (Firmware 2.1)

Resolution

This problem is known to occur periodically when the BBC change their radio feeds which can happen every few months.

  1. HIMS have created a new Web Radio feed file, this can be substituted for existing one on the player which shoudl be deleted prior to copying the new one to the Senseplayer.
  2. Use one of the method below or the workaround.

Deploying replacement Web Radio INI file

A new Web Radio INI file is available to use.  Whilst this will fix the problem, replacing the file will lose any existing Web Radio stations currently stored.

Alert
ALERT!
  1. The SensePllaer requires the installation of of MTP driver to access the file syste, in case of problems see Installing MTP driver (Windows) for help.
  2. If you have an Apple Mac you can use a free third party app called OpenMTP to access the SensePlayer flashdisk instead.

  1. Download the Web Radio update - July 2025 file and place it in a folder for convenient location.
  2. Open the location the INI file is downloaded into and press CONTROL+C to copy.
  3. Then open File Explorer to the Web Radio folder on SensePlayer flashdisk.
  4. Open the Web Radio folder.
  5. Then press CONTROL+V to paste the file which should cause an overwrite prompt to appear, choose Yes to replace it.
  6. Eject and physicall disconnect the SensePlayer.

Workaround – Install and use BBC sounds app instead

  1. The BBC Sonds app can be used to access all BBC radio stations without the worry of feed updates a\nd includes other useful features as well.
  2. To install BBC Sounds app navigate to App Apps > App Installer.
  3. The BBC Sound app may require a BBC account to sign in.

  1. Press HOME button and use arrows to navigate to All Apps and press OK.
  2. Then locate App Installer and press OK.
  3. Then use arrows to locate BBC Sounds app and press OK to  download.
  4. SensePlayer will then attempt to download and install the BBC sounds app package.
  5. After installation locate and open the BBC sounds app.  If you have not created a BBC Account you may be prompted to do so or use your existing login credentials to sign in.
