Set up JAWS to announce indents in a text editor
Problem
You wish to have JAWS announce indents, this may be particularly useful to coders in some languages that use indents as part of language syntax.
Resolution
- Open the application in which you wish JAWS to announce indent in.
- Then press JAWSKey+F2 and select “Settings Centre” or press JAWSKey+6 on the number row instead.
- If you are prompted to create a configuration this may be because the editor being used does not have a configuration. Please accept the name given and press ENTER.
- In Settings Centre type “speech and sound” without the quotes and down arrow to “Active speech and sounds scheme”.
- Press F6 to reach the “Activate speech and sounds” scheme drop down list and press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the list.
- Then arrow down and choose one of the indent schemes listed that seems most appropriate for the task.
- Then press TAB to reach “Apply” button and press spacebar, then do the same for the “OK” button.
- Your speech and sounds manager indent scheme will be active when you use the editor.
