JAWS - Set up to announce tab indents in text editors

Problem

A customer wishes to have JAWS speak indent levels within a text editor app (for example proramming) where indent levels are important structure of code.


Resolution

The first step if to open Settings Centre with the intended application focused so that a new configuration is created.
  1. Then type “Scheme” without the quotes and down arrow to “speech and sound schemes”.
  2. Press SPACBER to cycle through to find the appropriate indent scheme.
  3. Tab to the “Apply” button and press spacebar.
  4. Then uses TAB/SHIF+TAB to navigate back to the search edit box.
  5. Then search “Indent and arrow down to select “Say indent characters”.
  6. Then use the SPACEBAR to activate the checkbox.
  7. Then press TAB to reach the “Apply” button and press spacebar on it.
  8. Then press ENTER to dismiss the dialogue.
