Problem
A SmartVision 3 has an incoming call from a WhatsApp contact and cannot accept it using OK button.
Applies to
- SmartVision 3
Resolution
A recent update WhatsApp has caused a problem with the Answer button on an incoming WhatsApp calls. Kapsys have identified this issue is not with the SmartVision 3 but a fault with WhatsApp and interaction with the Talkback screen reader which is present on other Android phones. They have submitted several reports to WhatsApp about this but have no communication back from the developers about the problem.
When accepting a voice call the OK and Power physical shortcuts are supported by the call screen.
The instructions below currently do not work, but this is how the process should be:
- When a call comes and you are not sure if it is a WhatsApp call press OK to pick up a voice call.
- If the call still rings it may be thgough WhatsApp, please press DOWN arrow key to navigate to Answer button, then press OK.
- When you are finished with the WhatsApp call you will then press DOWN arrow to reach the Decline button, then press OK on it.
Tip
- When hanging up a call you may need to keep your ear close to the earpeice if you have been using it during the call, then listen out for the screen reader as you press DOWN arrow key to find the Decline button then press OK to hang up the call.
- The OK or Power
buttons will not answer or end WhatsApp calls as they do in the native
phone app.
- This behavior is not
a fault with the SV3, but a limitation of WhatsApp’s interface.
- Kapsys recommends
referring users to the official WhatsApp documentation for
app-specific guidance.
