JAWS - Switch JAWS keyboard layout

Problem

A customer wishes to switch JAWS keyboard layout because their machine does not have a number or they wish to free up the number pad for other tasks. 


Resolution

The user may choose between laptop and desktop keyboard layouts according to preference.   When set to desktop the number pad INSERT (0) key is used as the JAWS shift key.  When laptop layout is selected CAPSLOCK is used as the JAWS shift key.  
  1. Press ALT+TAB or JAWSKey+J to reach JAWS window.
  2. Press ALT+O to open Options menu.
  3. Then choose Basics by pressing ENTER.
  4. Than tab to "keyboard layout" drop down and press down arrow to select "laptop".
  5. TAB to OK button and press ENTER.

Note
Laptop layout may be used regardless of the typew of machine/keyboard but is most useful if no number pad is present or you wish to keep it free for normal operation rather than JAWS functions.  When lsptop key layout is selected the CAPSLOCK key will require a double press within a second to toggle CAPSLOCK on or off.
