UEB and computer Braille entry tips for HIMS Polaris and BrailleSense 6 notetakers

Problem

a customer using HIMS Polaris or BrailleSense 6 notetaker requires some guidance on the usage of different Braille codes.

  2. BrailleSense Notetaker

Resolution

By default both Polaris and BrailleSense 6 notetakers assume entry is in UEB although it is possible to switch between codes manually using the SPACE+G shortcut. However in circumstances particulasr where numbers and special symbols are used switching Braille grade to your preferred option may not always work out.  Items like wi-fi passwords or email address will require you to enter using UEB anyway.


UEB text entry example

To illustrate with an example, consider: Stu14td
* Dot 6 before letter S to denote input of a single uppercase letter.
* Number sign dot3-4-5-6 prio of Braille entry 14 as lower digits
* Dot5-6 letter sign to indicate return to letter shift input


Input @ sign for Email addresses

@ sign = Dot 4 followed by dot 1 (UEB input)
@ sign = space-U followed by dot 4 (computer Braille)


Entering Wi-Fi ior other critical information using Computer Braille

  1. Press space+U for a single capital letter,
  2. Press space+U chord twice to egnage capslock to enter multiple consecutive characters in uppercase format. 
  3. To finish entering block capitals press space+U again.off.
