FS Auth - Unable to generate locking code
Problem
A Freedom Scientific Network license customer encounters an error stating that the Locking Code cannot be generated when attempting to activate their license on a Sentinel Server.
Resolution
Before applying the resolution check the following:
- Check the 20 digit code for the license is correct.
- Check if the license type is network multi-user, if so activation should only be carried out on the license server and not workstation.
Use the steps below where the error is being encountered whilst trying to activate a Sentinel server.
- Download the EchoID tool with the following link:
http://fileshare.vfo.digital/echoid.zip - Unzip the tool on the server and run it. Verify the locking code that comes up has 5 characters after the dash.
- If it does not, you’ll need to open the EchoID.dat file and modify the bottom line to a different value. See the comments in the dat file.
- Go to the http://www.FSActivate.com web site and choose the link to Retrieve an Activation License code.
- Generate a license string using the locking code that was created by the EchoID utility, and your Authorization Code.
- Run the Server Administration tool that was installed with the network tools, namely WLM Admin.
- Open your Subnet Server, and Right click the Server name.
- In the popup menu, choose “Add Feature, then choose “From String”.
- You will then be presented with 2 new menu options, “to server” or “to server and its file.” Choose the option, “to server and its file.”
- Paste the Code you generated in to the license code field.
