FS Auth - Update dongle license (JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion)

Problem

A customer has purchased an upgrade for a Freedom Scientific product and has a dongle update file to apply to their dongle authorisation.


Applies to:

  • JAWS
  • ZoomText
  • Fusion

Resolution

A dongle update file is typically appropriate in one of the following scenarios below: 
  1. To update the license for a recently purchased new major upgrade version.
  2. To add SMA counts that have been recently purchased.

Please use either method below to update the USB dongle.


Tip
The following points are recommended for customers in managed IT environments:
  1. It is highly recommended to have administrator level access to any PC where limited user login is typically being used.
  2. Disable any anti-virus software to avoid problems with the dongle file being processed.

Using a keyboard

  1. When you receive your dongle update please save the attached DATH file to somewhere you can access it.
  2. Make sure USB authorization dongle is connected to your system.
  3. Press windows key to open Start menu and search as appropriately as below for your product to update and press ENTER to open the result as appropriate to the installed product:

Utilities – JAWS (for JAWS/Fusion products)
Utilities – ZoomText (for ZoomText products)
Utilities - Fusion (for Fusion products

  1. In the new explorer window use the cursor navigation keys or press letter D until you navigate to “Dongle Viewer” and press ENTER..
  2. Now press TAB to reach the “Update” button then press SPACEBAR.
  3. Use cursor keys to highlight “Authorization file” radio button.
  4. Then press TAB to reach “Browse” button and press SPACEBAR to browse files. 
  5. In the Open dialogue navigate to the location where the DATH file is stored and focus on it.
  6. With the DATH file highlighted press TAB to “Open” button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  7. The dongle DATH update file will be processed and the relevant license info updated. You can use cursor keys to review the information to confirm the dongle has been successfully updated.

Using a mouse

  1. When you receive your dongle update please save the attached DATH file to somewhere you can access it.
  2. Please ensure the dongle is attached to the computer before proceeding.
  3. Click Start button and search Utilities and launch the group matching the installed product:

    Utilities – JAWS (for JAWS/Fusion products)
    Utilities – ZoomText (for ZoomText products)
    Utilities - Fusion (for Fusion products)

  4. Then double click Dongle Viewer, if using Fusion click Explore JAWS Utilities then click Dongle Viewer.
  5. Then click Update button and then browse to the location of the dongle update file and click OK.
  6. The file will then process and show the updated dongle information.
