Using Terminal for screen reader on HIMS BrailleSense notetakers

Information

HIMS notetakers allow the user to establish a connection with a screen reader using USB or Bluetooth connection.

Products affected:
• BrailleSense U2 range
• BrailleSense Polaris range
• BrailleSense 6 range

Operating systems platforms supported

• Windows

Steps

The steps below assuming a paring relationship or USB connection to t he device to be accessed has already been established.

  1. Press F1 to open Start menu.
  2. Then select Utilities > Terminal for screen reader and then ENTER.
  3. Then select the desired connection type USB or Bluetooth and press ENTER. You should then hear “Terminal Mode” spoken and be receiving Braille output from the connected screen reader.
  4. Press space-Z chord to exit terminal mode when finished or select another application from Start menu.

Using a second connection
• Terminal can maintain connection with a second device, for example if having connected over USB already you wish to connect to a Bluetooth enabled device separately press Backspace-Space-Enter-P to initiate the second connection.
• Use the keystroke Backspace-Space-Enter-C to toggle between the two active connections.
