HIMS - Using Terminal for Windows screen reader on USB

HIMS - Using Terminal for Windows screen reader on USB

Problem

A user would like to connect their U2 to a Windows screen reader product.

Applies to

• BrailleSense U2 range
• BrailleSense Polaris range
• BrailleSense 6 range

Detail

HIMS notetakers allow the user to establish a connection with a screen reader using USB to a Windows based screen reader.  These instructions assume a suitable driver and setup has been carried out with the screen reader.

Resolution

The steps below assuming a paring relationship or USB connection to the device to be accessed has already been established.

Note
When connected to Terminal Mode For Screen reader the BrailleSense device will be silent.

  1. Press F1 to open Start menu.
  2. Then select Utilities > Terminal for screen reader and then ENTER.
  3. Then select the desired connection type USB or Bluetooth and press ENTER. You should then hear “Terminal Mode” spoken and be receiving Braille output from the connected screen reader.
  4. Press space-Z chord to exit terminal mode when finished or select another application from Start menu.

Using a second connection

• Terminal can maintain connection with a second device, for example if having connected over USB already you wish to connect to a Bluetooth enabled device separately press Backspace-Space-Enter-P to initiate the second connection.
• Use the keystroke Backspace-Space-Enter-C to toggle between the two active connections.
