HIMS - Using Terminal for Windows screen reader on USB
Problem
A user would like to connect their U2 to a Windows screen reader product.
Applies to
• BrailleSense U2 range
• BrailleSense Polaris range
• BrailleSense 6 range
Detail
HIMS notetakers allow the user to establish a connection with a screen reader using USB to a Windows based screen reader. These instructions assume a suitable driver and setup has been carried out with the screen reader.
Resolution
The steps below assuming a paring relationship or USB connection to the device to be accessed has already been established.

Note
When connected to Terminal Mode For Screen reader the BrailleSense device will be silent.
- Press F1 to open Start menu.
- Then select Utilities > Terminal for screen reader and then ENTER.
- Then select the desired connection type USB or Bluetooth and press ENTER. You should then hear “Terminal Mode” spoken and be receiving Braille output from the connected screen reader.
- Press space-Z chord to exit terminal mode when finished or select another application from Start menu.
Using a second connection
• Terminal can maintain connection with a second device, for example if having connected over USB already you wish to connect to a Bluetooth enabled device separately press Backspace-Space-Enter-P to initiate the second connection.
• Use the keystroke Backspace-Space-Enter-C to toggle between the two active connections.
