JAWS - Opening basic training DAISY books

Problem

A new JAWS customer or one who wishes to return to training materials may need help accessing the DAISY training materials in FS Reader with which JAWS is supplied.

This document provides information about the DAISY basic training course provided with JAWS.


About DAISY basic training

The JAWS basic training consists of approximately nine hours of self paced audio and text training materials.  It provides all the essential information needed to learn to use JAWS.   Whilst reading a topic yuou may wish to pause playback by pressing CONTROL+P and use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to read the training text content.  The content is hosted in the FS Reader app whciih when open displays a list of book topics on the left hand side, and on the right the training text.  Pressing F6 switches between both windows inside FS Reader.  Please see below stsps for using FS Reader to access the basic training material.

Open DAISY Basic Training 

  1. Press WINDOWS+D to access the windows desktop.
  2. Press letter F until you reach “FS Reader” application icon and press ENTER to open it.
  3. In the FS Reader app press CONTROL+J to open the basic training index.
  4. Then press DOWN ARROW to read the content with JAWS.
  5. Press CONTROL+P to play the training audio for the currently selected topic.  Use the same shortcut to pause the audio.
  6. Press F6 to move back to the book topics.
  7. Then press UP/DOWN ARROW key to navigate through the topics, press RIGHT ARROW tro expand a closed book topic. 
  8. Press ENTER top select a topoic to read.  The book chapter will then begin playing audio; press CONTROL+P to pause or play the content.
