JAWS - What to do if JAWS is losing position of VPC in documents

Problem

JAWS loses its position in web browser, email and Adobe PDF documents after switching away from them to another window.

Detail

For web browsing, email and PDF documents JAWS uses a mechanism known as Virtual PC Cursor (VPC) which is designed to act like a real text cursor. The Virtual PC Cursor however does not allow editing but does allow certain navigation features useful for document navigation.

Resolution

There is no resolution for this problem at present, however there are some workarounds to use until an update resolves the problem.
Info
This problem has been reported with JAWS 2022.2207.4 and is with development for fix in a future version.

Workarounds

The following workarounds may help until a fix is provided.

  1. Make sure the application window where the VPC is operating are maximized; press ALT+SPACEBAR and then with arrows select maximize and press ENTER.
  2. Create a temporary place marker with the shortcut CONTROL+WINDOWS+K to save place on the page.  When JAWS loses position press K on the keyboard to go back to the place marker position set earlier.
