Windows 10 startup repair

Problem

Windows is not starting and you wish to use startup repair to fix the issue.

Resolution

Method 1: Windows 10 using boot CD
This is the best option for making a successful repair of the system.

  1. Power on the laptop and insert the Windows 10 CD and close the draw or plug in the Windows USB boot media instead.
  2. Then shut down the laptop again.
  3. Power on the laptop and press F12 continuously to get the boot options. Some laptops may require you to use F10 instead of F12
  4. Choose your CD-ROM drive or Windows USB boot media to boot from the either method.
  5. If you are prompted select your input language and click “Next”.
  6. Then choose “Repair your computer” at the Install Windows screen.
  7. Then choose “Start up repair”.
  8. Then choose your Windows operating system.
  9. Select the administrator or your account and provide password if prompted to do so.
  10. Wait for the Automatic Repair process to Finish.
  11. The click Shut down once the process is complete.

Method 2: using the built in recovery mode
This aproach may work if you do not have external media.

  1. Boot into the recovery mode by repeatly pressing F8 as the computer starts, the choose "repair your computer" in the "Advanced boot options" screen,.
  2. Click Troubleshooting
  3. Click Advanced Options
  4. Click Startup Repair
  5. Select the operating system
  6. Select the Administrator account, if prompted to do so
  7. Wait for the Automatic Repair process to finish
  8. Click Shut down or Advanced options, once the process is complete
