Below is a list of port and URLs ZoomTtext uses online for various scenarios. This can be used to modify firewalling and other security systems to accommodate ZoomText online communication in a corporate environment.
New FSCast Notification - A Check for a new FSCast occurs on startup. The check for new FSCast is implemented by retrieving the RSS Feed at location:
https://www.freedomscientific.com/FSCast/rss.xml.
Using standard https protocol, JAWS contacts www.freedomscientific.com (http://www.freedomscientific.com/) at port 443.
Every JAWS comes with a set of links that can accessed via the Help Menu.

A user can initiate a check to see if new updates to the product are available. The updater first checks if an internet connection is available by trying to open the URL: http://www.freedomscientific.com
If it succeeds, it checks to see if FSUpdate.dll is present. If not, it tries to download the file first using FTP the link:

FSUpdate.dll references two URL's to get the list of updates. They are :

The updates reside in a Freedom Scientific database. If any updates are needed in the local system, the auto updater will download the updates from the list of updates. Updates are usually hosted in the Freedom Scientific CDN.
Authorization - JAWS uses the Sentinel library to perform product authorization. If local authorization is not present network authorization is attempted. This document describes how the network authorization occcurs.
JAWS Training materials – The daisy training materials Table of contents is downloaded on the user’s computer as they launch FSReader. When the user selects a training material book in the Table of contents, it is again downloaded on to the computer. The training materials are packaged are windows installers that are installed on the local computer. The training materials are downloaded from:

Tip: If you want to use the Automatic Updates feature to update your software, your firewall must allow JAWS to access ports 20 and 21 or port 80.
