ZoomText – Setting start up options (using ZoomText UI)

Problem

A customer's ZoomText does not start up automatically so they have to run in manually..


Applies to

  1. ZoomText/Fusion

Resolution

ZoomText can be made to start automatically during sign in and after sign in using two separate settings. Choose the method that best suits the scenario.


Using the mouse

  1. With ZoomText running click on the ZoomText taskbar button to open the main window.
  2. Then click on the ZoomText menu on the left of the main window.
  3. Then select Preferences > Program Preferences.
  4. In the new window check the item “Start ZoomText at the logon prompt” if magnification is required during Windows sign in.
  5. Then click the checkbox “Start ZoomText after logon” to have ZoomText run automatically after signing into Windows.
  6. Then click the OK button to save the settings.
  7. Then click the ZoomText menu and select Configurations > Save As Default.
  8. Click Yes on the confirmation prompt to overwrite the Zoomtext Settings file.


Using the keyboard

  1. With ZoomText running press CONTROL+CAPSLOCK+U to open the main window.
  2. Press ALT+Z to open the ZoomText menu.
  3. Then arrow down to “Preferences” and press ENTER, press ENTER again on Program preferences.
  4. In the new window press SPACEBAR to activate the option “Start ZoomText at the logon prompt.
  5. Press TAB to reach the option “Start ZoomText after logon” then press SPACEBAR to enable this option.
  6. Press TAB to reach OK button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  7. Then press ALT+Z to open ZoomText menu and down arrow to “Configurations” and press ENTER.
  8. Then use arrow keys to locate “Save as default file” and press ENTER.
  9. At the confirmation prompt TAB to the Yes button and press SPACEBAR on it to confirm overwrite of the default configuration fie.


Note
  1. On systems with UAC enable an extra strep for confirming a system action may be posted. Either click Yes or provide credentials to allow this change.
  2. When using the keyboard instructions pressing the ALT+Z chord to open ZoomText men the customer may find this does may not work. In such case press ALT first then follow with letter Z and then continue navigating the menu after that.
