ZoomText – Settings appear to change each time ZoomText is started


Problem

One of the two problems below happen when ZoomText/Fusion starts:

  1. A  ZoomText/Fusion users experiences a problem where the settings last used from previous session appear as defaults the next time the software starts.
  2. A ZoomText/Fusion experiences settings that constantly appear to change each time ZoomText starts.

  2. Fusion 

Resolution

ZoomText/Fusion can be set to save settings on exit, when enabled ZoomText/Fusion will automatically save the settings that are currently active for the next time it starts.  This may not be desirable where users prefer to have a specific set of defaults set that are suitable for their needs.  Use the steps below to do this:
 

Method 1 – Using the mouse

  1. With ZoomText or Fusion running click the ZoomText or Fusion menu (on the left) to open the menu in the main application window.
  2. Then click Preferences > Program in the menu system.
  3. In the new window click to uncheck the option Save ZoomText Settings Automatically When Exiting.
  4. Then click OK button to confirm the changes.
  5. Click ZoomText > Configuration > Save As Default.
  6. If required make any settings changes to ZoomText/Fusion that are required for preferred defaults.
  7. Then click Yes button on the prompt to update the configuration file. 
 

Method 2 – Using the keyboard

  1. Press CONTROL+CAPSLOCK+U to open the main ZoomText/Fusion window.
  2. For ZoomText press ALT+Z or Fusion ALT+F to open the main menu.
  3. Press DOWN ARROW to reach Preferences then press ENTER.
  4. Then use the ARROW keys to select Program in the preference sub menu and press ENTER.
  5. Press TAB key until you reach the checkbox option Save ZoomText Settings Automatically When Exiting, then press SPACEBAR to uncheck the setting.
  6. Press TAB key to reach OK button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  7. Make any necessary changes to ZoomText or Fusion settings you may wish to have as start up defaults.
  8. Then press ALT+Z in ZoomText or ALT+F in Fusion to open the menu.
  9. Then press UP/DOWN ARROW keys to find Configuration and press ENTER.
  10. Use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to locate Save As Default option and press ENTER.
  11. Press TAB to land on the Yes button and press SPACEBAR.
