JAWS - New user activation (ILM)

Problem

A new or existing JAWS customer needs to activate their recently installed JAWS product.

Resolution

JAWS must be activated with a software license to remove the 40 minute demo mode limitation.  Aftrer the order has been completed an email is sent from despatch with the product serial number and authorisation number (product key) to activate the software license.  Atlernatively if it has been purchased with dongle license this may be despatched by post, in this latter case it should be plugged in before the product starts to install drivers and in readdiness to provide the license.

Note
The serial number is used only for identifying the license.  You may confirm the license is activated by checking for this serial number under Help > About JAWS.

  1. Home users will usually have few problems activating their software as long as they have administrator level permissions on their account.
  2. Customers in organisations may need to refer to their IT staff for help with obtaining the corect permissions for install and activation.  IT staff may wish to refer to the article activate JAWS manually to avoid problems with internet firewalls.

  1. When JAWS posts the activation dialogue respond by pressing SPACEBAR or ENTER on the "Update authorisation" button.
  2. On the next screen make sure the option Internet (RECOMMENDED) is set using the UP/DOWN ARROW keys, then press ENTER.
  3. On the next screen the 20 digit authorisation your are prompted for your 20 digit ILM authorisation number if it is not already shown.  Enter the number if it is not shown and then press ENTER to continue.  
  4. When the ILM code has been entered press ENTER to continue with activation.
  5. After a short while JAWS will inform the user that activation has been successfully completed press ENTER on the "Finish" button.

Note
Should JAWS fail to display an activation dialogue one can launch it manually via > Help > Manage License > Update authorisation with in the JAWS window or context menu.
