Freedom Scientific – Notes on deployment of JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion in organisations

Problem

An IT technical team responsible for deployment of software in a large organisation wish to create deployment packages to manage installation of Freedom Scientific BLV software JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion to their users.

Resolution

Freedom Scientific who develop JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion software have provided command line arguments as a means of being able to control how the installer opereates for a gibven product.  In some cases it may be to control which options or langguages are installed.  In other cases it may be to provide a more automated install process rathr than traditional interactive installation process.  When considering installation at an organisational scale it quikly becomes necessary to have some kind fo automated install process to handle the load.  This is why Freedom Scientific provide the command line switches.  Thus in considering the creation of any deployment package studying the available commands is a good first step.  Please see the command line options for each products below although they similar whichever product you are installing:

Notes on upgrading/uninstallation

The installation process for Freedom Scientific products does not as a matter of course remove the previous product.  Since these provide accessibility support for the individual using the PC they decide not to disturb a previously working installation whilst installing the new version to prevent the user being without their access to their machine in the course of the new version install.  However by use of the silent uninstall script for the currently installed product version it is possible to remove the software.  Therefore it is  advised during initial package creation to have an installer package and uninstaller package for the targe version.
