JAWS - Download and installation (For Technicians)

JAWS - Download and installation (For Technicians)

Problem

An IT Technician is tasked with installing JAWS for an end user.

Resolution

The steps below are for installing JAWS onto a local computer or client computer on a network.

Offline installer

The JAWS Offline installer is designed to be used in restricted IT environments where Internet access is controlled by firewall and download of executables are not generally allowed.  The Offline Installer packages up everything that is needed into a single installer as opposed to the online installer which is smaller but downloads components as it installs.  Offline installers are available for versions 2019 and later.  Please click JAWS Offline Installer Page to access and download the installer required.

Notes
Note
In order to install JAWS you will need Administrator credentials for the system to provide full access to the installer.

  1. Open a browser and go to:  JAWS Offline Installer page.  The installer for the current version will be available immediately on the page, however if the license is for an earlier version use the drop on the page to select an earlier version installer.
  2. After download has completed ensure you are logged in as Administrator on the machine before starting the install.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete installation.
  4. At completion you are invited to restart the system, please do so.
  5. On restart JAWS will normally launch automatically, if it doesn't please double click the Desktop icon to start it.
  6. After Starting the software may the Update Authorisation dialogue, please see JAWS Manual Activation for details.  To confirm successful activation you can choose Help > About JAWS in the JAWS window, this dialogue will show the product serial number, if 801 is shown it means JAWS is not authorized and will only continue in 40 minute demo mode.
  7. Once authorisation is complete you may then be prompted by the Start Up wizard, please refer to JAWS Start Up Wizard screens for reference.  Pay particular attention to the JAWS Auto Start screen to ensure it runs automatically when handed over to the user.
  8. Restart the system to ensure JAWS does open at sign in and once the desktop is loaded.  After confirming this the install is complete, it is ready to be handed over to the user..
