JAWS - Online help overview

Problem

A new customer using JAWS wishes to avail themselves of the different sources of help information with which JAWS comes supplied.

Resolution

JAWS comes with a number of different ways of getting help information including keystroke to obtain help straight away whilst you are using the product.  These are each described below.

Basic Training Audio

Help is also available through the FS Reader app which hosts the JAWS Basic Training audio, please see: Using FS Reader to access Basic Training material.  These consist of nine hours of self-paced tutorial information on using JAWS. The FS Reader app is a DAISY book reader application supplied with JAWS and Fusion. It supplies both text and audio to allow new users to explore and learn about the many features they can use. 


JAWS Help Topics

Also available via the Help menu are help topics available through the JAWS online help system. It contains detailed help from the online help system.


Keyboard Help Mode

JAWS keyboard help mode allows you to try out keys on the keyboard and hear their function. It is good for just exploring or just refreshing your memory which key does what.


  1. Press JAWSKey+1 to turn on keyboard help mode.
  2. Then press any key chord combination you wish to find out its function.
  3. When finished return to normal operartion press JAWSKey+1 again.

Screen Sensitive Help

JAWS can also provide context sensitive help wilst you are using an application. When you think you might like a hint press JAWSKey+F1 and JAWS will speak and display any context sensitive help available.


JAWS Hotkey help

JAWS provides convenient help for customer even whilst they are using JAWS.  Customers may press JAWSKey+H to hear a list of common hotkeys they can use.
