Microsoft - Getting ready for Windows 11

Problem

This document assumes a user has a PC running Windows 10 satisfactorily who wishes to prepare to upgrade to Windows 11 some time in the near future.

Resolution

  1. Microsoft have are due to cease support for Windows 10 on 14/10/2025.  After this updates wil  no longer be availabe to mainstream home users of Windowes 11.  This potentially risks important security flaws going unpatched which may render a system more vulnerable to malware attack.
  2. Microsoft have created a page for those looking for assistance with running a check on their PC to check whether their PC is compatible with the system requirements for Windows 11, please visit:  How to get the Windows 11 PC Health Check app or use direct download link Download PC Health check app instead.
  3. After running the PC Health Check app your PC may be found to not be compatible with Wihndows 11. An important criterian that desktop systems may in particular fail to have is a TPM 2.0 security module which is now required in Windows 11.  In such cases where the hardware is insufficient it may be easiest to consider a new computer system rather than attempt to upgradee the existing system.
