Microsoft - Getting ready for Windows 11

Problem

This document assumes a user has a PC running Windows 10 satisfactorily who wishes to prepare to upgrade to Windows 11 some time in the near future.

Microsoft have signalled intention to cease support for Windows 10 in fall of 2025 in accordance with their operating system life-cycle policy. When this happens the Windows operating system will still function, however security patches will no longer be publicly available to maintain the operating system security.
Microsoft have created a page for those looking for assistance with running a check on whether their PC or laptop is capable of running Windows 11 when Windows 10 support is finally withdrawn.
