Q:  Does the dongle require a different software download?

Anyone may download the Offline Installers, and this may be useful if the internet connection is manage by firewall or there is no internet available on the target machine because it is air-gapped.

Q:  When to plug in the dongle?

A: To avoid problems it is important to wait until the Freedom Scientific product has been installed.  If the dongle is plugged in before the Freedom Scientific product has been installed Windows installs a different set of incompatible drivers for the dongle which will result in failure to detect dongle authorization.

Q:  Can you check the license contained in the dongle

A:  Yes please see checking dongle authorization for further details.

Q:  After purchasing a version upgrade what happens about the dongle?

A: If you have purchased an upgrade for your serial number a dongle update file will need to be requested for you. Please contact Technical Support with the serial number for help with this.

Q:  Can you unplug the dongle whilst the product is running

A:  The dongle should be present as long as the product is running.  The software which uses heartbeat style checks for the presence of authorization.  If it doesn't detect authorization during those heartbeat checks the product will go into 40 minute demo mode.

Q:  What if a dongle is lost?

A: A replacement can be purchased from Sight and Sound. Please contact sales for pricing.
