Brother MFC-J6530DW no longer works on wireless/unreachable
Problem
You have a brother all-in-one model MFC-J6530DW or similar that has previously worked on wireless but no longer is reachable over wi-fi.
Resolution
The problem may be that the wireless settings have become corrupted and that the printer cannot be detected even when running the printer setup; proceed as below.
Step 1: Reset wireless network settings
- Press Settings > All Settings > Network > Network Reset.
- The message confirming reset will be displayed. Press OK button for two seconds. The machine will restart and reset the network settings.
Step 2: Install printer driver
- Run the setup as normal and select "Wireless setup" option.
- The setup will scan for the printer and may print to use the exist network settings.
- Click Next button to join the printer to the existing Wi-Fi network.
Step 3: Select wireless network and enter wireless details
- If the printer is not detected you may try joining it to the Wi-Fi network via the front panel.
- On the front panel touch display press Settings > All Settings > Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard].
- When Enable WLAN? appears, press Yes button.
- The printer then searches for networks from which you can choose.
- Then enter the network password to connect.
Step 4: Use a USB or ethernet as apropriate
In some cases wireless setup cannot be completed and in such cases you can use either a direct USB connection or Ethernet via the router if it is near enough to permit connection to the router.
