Mac OS - Check for Mac OS software updates
Problem
A Mac user would like to check for software updates to maintain their system or resolve a problem.

Resolution
Use the method most apropriate to known operating system version. Operating system information may be found by clicking Apple symbol (top left) then choosing About This Mac in thie menu, refer to Mac OS versions for further information.
Method 1 - for Mac OS version 13.0 (Ventura) and above
Method 2 - for Mac OS version 12.0 (Monterey) and below
- Click Apple symbol (top left in menu bar).
- Then click “About this Mac” menu item. Displayed Here will be the current Mac OS version if it needs to be reported.
- Then click “Software update…” button to check for updates.
- If updates are found click the “update” button to install.
