Check for Mac OS software updates

Information

Many problems can possibly be resolved by checking for Mac OS updates.

Steps

Use the method most apropriate to known operating system, otherwise use the methods below in sequence.

Note

Information about the opperating system update status may be gathered whilst updating if this information is required to be reported.

Method 1 - for Mac OS Monterey and below

  1. Click Apple symbol (top left in menu bar).
  2. Then click “About this Mac” menu item. Displayed Here will be the current Mac OS version if it needs to be reported.
  3. Then click “Software update…” button to check for updates.
  4. If updates are found click the “update” button to install.

Method 2 - for Mac OS Ventura and above

  1. Click Aplle menu (top left in menu bar).
  2. Then click Ssystem Settings > General > Software update.
  3. If updates are found click the "Udate" button to install.
  4. If the system is fully updated it will show the currently installed version if this needs to be reported.
