Resolution

This document describe the different update types available for Freedom Scientific softwae products.  The list below divide into different types of update.

Major updates

Availability: Major updates are generally posted October/November.  Major updates are distributed via the auto-update mechanism and are offered to all users but may require additional authorisation if the installed version exceeds the version allowed by authorisation.  Frequency:  Approximately every 12 months.


Maintenance Update

Availability: Free for all users whose authorisation matches the major release version.
Frequency: Approximately every eight weeks


Potential update issues

  1. Since Freedom Scientific offer update to next major version it is important to check that the new version being offered does not exceed the authorisation already installed on the computer.  If in doubt press escapee key to back out of the update process and check ILM Authorisation status or Dongle Authorisation status for information about your authorisation status.
  2. If a customer downloads a version greater than their license the product will run in demo mode before exiting after 40 minutes.  For assistance please contact Sight and Sound Technical Support by email support@sightandsound.co.uk or call 01604 798 000 for help with getting out of demo mode. 
  3. Subscription license users may lose access to their product if the authorisation has expired and not been extended.

Manual Downloads

There are two types of manual installer one may user; the online installer requires an internet connection whilst it runs, for those situations where the internet connection is firewalled or managed in such a way the online installer failes choose the offline installer instead which does not require an internet connection during installation.
