JAWS/Fusion – Restore lost speech using layered hotkey

Problem

You wish to find a reliable way to select a soundcard in the event that the correct one is not selected or you can hear no speech even though JAWS/Fusion is currently running.

Resolution

When a soundcard is plugged in or removed from Windows it is possible you may lose speech in JAWS or Fusion.  When this happens use the layered hotkeys to restore speech to the remaining sound device on your computer.

  1. Press JAWSKey+SPACEBAR to activate the JAWS layered command mode.
  2. Press V to open the Volume layer.
  3. Press C to access the Sound Card selection layer.
  4. Use the UP/DOWN ARROW to cycle through all available sound cards. JAWS will announce each sound card as you move to it.
  5. Press ESCAPE to finish soundcard select.

This feature is available when running JAWS or Fusion.  The feature is not available when running ZoomText only.
