About
JAWS is a Windows screen reader product whose letters were said to stand for Job Access With Speech was first introduced in 1995. It was basesd off the original DOS product developed by Henter-Joyce who later were incorporated into Freedom Scientific as part of the Vispero group. Over the last 30 years it has recieved significant development over time developed into mature blindness reading solution including OCR sccanning of text from PDF and paper hard copy. In the most recent itterations the developers have made use of AI tehcnology to provide greater access to material including images that can now be described to the user or The FS Companion which allows customers to ask the answer bot any questions relating to operation of JAWS. Another significant feature is its adaptability to non-standard business applications which can have JAWS be scripted to make these accessible and usable by those in job roles.

License
JAWS is available in a variety of different licenses from single user to multiuser and network license options.
Activation is via a 20 digit ILM key for the license which can be activated over the internet via challendge/response architecture to grant licnese on a specific computer..
Development cycle (major versions)
- Annual major release scheduled approximately October/November each year.
- Version upgrades chargeable.
- Software Maintenance Agreement available for pre-paid cost effective access to 2 future major versions releases.
Minor version upgrades
During any major version cycle monthly upgrades are provided to authorised users for the life of the current version/ product cycle.
