Microsoft – Uninstall a Windows update
Problem
A user wishes to uninstall a recent Windows update in order to resolve a problem.

- Windows 11
- Windows 10
Resolution
To uninstall a Windows update you must have an administrator level login. Depending on who controls your system:
- Users who own and control their own PC will have the ability to uninstall an update provided their logon is not limited.
- Users who have a work PC that is controlled by an organisation may need to seek assistance from their local IT staff.
- Click Start button then click Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
- Then click the Uninstall link placed to the right of each update to uninstall it. Follow the instructions to and prompt to restart to complete update removal.
Note
For Windows 10 systems the path is Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history > Uninstall updates.
