JAWS - Quickly read file date and type information in Windows

Problem

Whilst browsing files in Windows Explorer you wish to know the file date and type properties without having to open the Properties window. 


Resolution

This solution requires two stages, however the first only needs to be done once:

  1. Setting List View format.
  2. View common file properties

Setting list view format

  1. Open Windows Explorer by pressing WINDOWS+E.
  2. Press CONTROL+ALT+6 on the number row to switch to details view.

View common file properties

  1. With Details view enabled locate a file using UP/DOWN ARROW keys.
  2. Then press right arrow to move through the columns to the right, by default the Date Modified and File Type should be available.
  3. When you are ready to examine another file or take some other action press left arrow until you get back to the file name.

Open File/Folder properties dialogue

To open File/Folder properties dialogue ALT+ENTER to open the file properties dialogue, then press JAWSKey+B to read dialogue box in TAB key order.when done.
