Problem

A ZoomText customer is presented with a PDF document file they need to read with ZoomText speech.

Note

Some set up may be required please see the following:
• Make Adobe Reader default viewer for PDF documents
• Configure Adobe for use with ZoomText

Using AppReader with Adobe PDF documents

  1. Open the PDF document you wish to read, make sure it is opening in Adobe Reader if it loads into Microsoft Edge or some other app this process will not work.
  2. Then use either the scroll wheel on the mouse or page up and page down keys to navigate if you wish to read some way into the document.
  3. To begin reading do either of the following:

o Press ALT+CAPSLOCK+A to start the reader (this will usually start from the first bit of text in the document).
o Press ALT+CAPSLOCK and left click on the text where you wish to begin reading.

  1. Whilst in reader mode press ENTER to pause reading if you wish, then press ENTER to restart.
  2. Whilst in AppReader mode document navigate is limited so press escape to release the reader tool and find another spot to read.
  3. Then re-engage the reader again.
  4. Repeat the steps above as required.

Enable Mouse Echo to read text under the mouse pointer.

  1. Click the ZoomText button on the taskbar or press CONTROL+CAPSLOCK+U to open the main ZoomText window.
  2. Then click the Reader tab on the ZoomText window.
Note

The ZoomText Reader tab is only available for ZoomText Magnifier/Reader licenses and is not preent in Magnifier only license.

  1. In the Reader tab click the black down pointing arrow under Mouse Echo button to access the options then click Settings.

  1. Choose the type of Mouse Echo response desired:

o Instant echo – will speak instantly when the mouse moves over text
o Hover echo – will speak after a delay of 0.5 seconds or more

  1. If you choose Hover Echo you can specify a longer delay, use the up down buttons in the spin box to change the delay.
  2. Then click OK button to dismiss the settings dialogue.
  3. Test to see if the settings work for you, after confirming save these as default.
  4. To save as default click the ZoomText menu then Configurations > Save as default and click Yes button at the confirmation prompt. The settings are saved permanently for the next session.
